Executive Summary
Northwest Pathology, a leading healthcare provider, faced challenges in managing and reporting operational and financial data after a merger. The company had different Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) in their new locations, making it difficult to have a centralized reporting system. Additionally, the legacy LIS did not provide the flexibility needed to support the company's new strategy after the merger.
To address these challenges, Northwest Pathology engaged Gistia, a leading provider of workflow automation solutions, to implement a Smart Lab Order Workflow System. The aim was to create a Single Source of Truth for both operational and financial data, making it easier to manage data and generate reports.
The Solution
Gistia implemented DxFlow, a Smart Workflow Engine, to support the customer's requirements. DxFlow provided the ability to ingest HL7 messages and integrate with the Lab's CRM system. The system was also designed to seamlessly visualize and handle errors.
After setting up DxFlow, Gistia configured the following modules:
OrderFlow
OrderFlow was configured to receive data streams from the LIS's and Billing Systems. This included Orders, Patients, Providers, Locations, and Claims. The data was stored in ConnectFlow's Data Store, making it the Single Source of Truth for all operational and financial data.
ReportFlow
ReportFlow was configured to convert the raw Orders and Claims data into Analytical Data Models and export it to Salesforce. This enabled reports to be run from a central location, providing a Single Source of Truth for all data.
Provider Ordering Console and Patient Access Portal
Gistia also implemented Provider Ordering Console and Patient Access Portal to provide seamless integration with the Lab's CRM system. This allowed for a Single Source of Truth for all data related to Patients and Providers.
Outcomes
The implementation of a Smart Lab Order Workflow System provided Northwest Pathology with the following outcomes:
Single Source of Truth
The system provided a Single Source of Truth for both operational and financial data. This made it easier to manage data and generate reports.
System Agnostic Platform
Data was kept in a system agnostic platform, allowing for distinct locations to continue to operate with separate systems. The disparate systems could even converge to a single system seamlessly.
Greater Flexibility
The legacy LIS did not provide the flexibility needed to support the company's new strategy after the merger. The Smart Workflow Engine provided the flexibility needed to meet the company's new requirements.
Problems Solved
The implementation of a Smart Lab Order Workflow System solved the following problems for Northwest Pathology:
Disparate Systems
Northwest Pathology had different LIS in their new locations, making it difficult to have a centralized reporting system. The Smart Workflow Engine provided a Single Source of Truth for all data, regardless of the system used.
Legacy LIS
The legacy LIS did not provide the flexibility needed to support the company's new strategy after the merger. The Smart Workflow Engine provided the flexibility needed to meet the company's new requirements.
